So I had to dust of my guitar to take this image. I couldn’t nail it originally and was having a hard time. Suddenly decided I was going to light paint it. What that means is making the room as dark as possible. I then set the exposure to 5 seconds and used a pen light torch to “paint” light onto the guitar at the angles I wanted it. After all that is what photography means “painting with light” .
To all those who make and play music, thanks for making my life and others so much richer, by being able to listen, appreciate and enjoy your music. What would life be without music?
love this snap! 🙂
Thanks. Glad you like it.
“What would life be without music?”
Amen! I couldn’t agree with you more.
This is a method that I haven’t tried yet, but I really like your results. The image really fits the subject and I can almost hear the sounds of the strings in a quiet coffee house setting.
Try it, it is good fun. Especially with colorful subjects with good texture. Check out Dave Black Photography for his light painting work…
Wow, great! And thanks for the “how to”. I can see this photo on an album cover.
Fantastic ! I’m going to try to do this over the weekend. Have a photo lighting assignment to do and this sounds like a perfect idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
Great idea! I’ve tried similar but using movement and exposure to create drawing. I will check out the David Black link you mentioned. Beautiful results!
Life without music? ….Unthinkable…
Great, love the light, takes me back a few years….I used to play guitar.
Great shot – well done! 🙂
Great pic!
Hi, Nice shot. I have always liked shots like this and painting with light is a great technique. I might just have to dust off my guitar and have a crack at it.
it looks warm and cozy like a favorite sweater,
but hiding in the shadows it sort of whispers sexy and hot, too
very nicely illuminated – and yet another way to communicate
Going to have to give this a try. My husband’s guitar is staring at me, longing to be a subject in one of my photos. Thank you for the inspiration.
beautiful lighting and composition. And although I understand the importance of watermarking images to prevent art theft, I think by using big and chunky fonts for your watermarks takes away from your photograph and doesn’t give it the ‘fine art’ feel it deserves. maybe try someothing more discreet, simple, and transparent 🙂
Beautiful! And thank you for teaching me something new. I am learning slowly. Last week it was some tips on taking macro shots. Today it’s light painting. I’ll have to try it!
It is fun. Takes a few tries though..

I am nothing if not tenacious 😉 I like practice.
