To be honest, I am not sure I like this image. It is an HDR photo so colors really pop, otherwise wouldn’t have done it. Plus this is project 365 and I don’t always have a choice. So 1 photo is 2 stops overexposed, 1 photo at correct exposure and 1 photo 2 stops underexposed. So I get detail in shadows and highlights and that 2 seconds exposure just past magic hour captures all colors of the sky.
Unfortunately, this web image doesn’t do it justice either. The High res image is 14MB in size and when I minimize for web, you lose all the detail in the image, so becomes a little blurry. Those colors are real. There are bright red thorn bushes in this scene and the cluster of them in distance makes them look almost purple when mixed with light brown reeds.

I do like this. Sometimes HDR photos seem gimmicky, especially if they’re not done right, but I don’t think that’s the case here. This especially reminds me of labradorite. It’s a stone that, when cut flat and polished, glows with blues and golds at the right angle of light.
Thanks. I appreciate the input and I just learned something. Thank you.
HDR is tricky, but the effect is surreal and I kind of like it.
Thanks Richard.
I learned something today as I have every day since I opened my blog. I’ve used and HDR app but not real photography so I like seeing your work here.
Beautiful. I used to paint scenes like this. It’s a really artistic shot and would look amazing framed and hung on the wall.
It looks like a painting to me, one that perfectly captures the magical colors of dusk. Thanks for sharing! We haven’t seen the magical colors of dusk here for at least a week. It’s nice to remember that it isn’t gray and dreary everywhere.
Your photos have encouraged me to try some different applications. I like the color behind the hill, it looks as if the sun is coming up to a gorgeous sunrise.
I’m not usually a fan of HDR, but the colors here are beautiful.
I love the bright bold colors!
Reblogged this on Conceptual Art.
It is a surreal effect but unfortunately the too much colour variety takes away our attention from the magnificent sky colours that you got.
This is amazing! Such great colors, nice capture you have there 🙂
You may be unsure whether you like it or not, but I am in no way conflicted. I was instantly attracted to the wide color palette and the contrast, and most especially to the surreal and almost tapestry feel to the piece. Whether or not the effect is manipulated is not the basis for how my initial reaction is attached to a photo … I either like it, or not. This one, I really like. So much so that I kind of wanted to climb inside it and rest a while.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I am glad to meet with you. This is a wonderful image, especially the sky with the trees is amazing. With my love, nia
I like this a lot for some of the same reasons others have mentioned: the broad color spectrum, the surreal feel, etc. I have been leaning toward processing my HDR images with a more subtle finish, using Nik HDR Efex Pro. But there are shots like this that just work better with the “over the top feel”. Given the exposures and the lighting, I imagine this is pretty close to what the scene looked like at the time. Nice shot.
Thanks for the comments. It was a great scene, and the red thorn bushes were awesome. What comes out more is the sky as those colors are usually invisible to the human eye after sunset. I will take a look at Nik HDR – thanks.
Hi, I think its atmospheric. Its got a sort of fairy tale, “magical” feel.
I know nothing about photography but this image has stayed in mind since i first saw it in mini a few days ago. I like it alot – it speaks of life in all its mystical technicolour glory.
